As a follow-up of the Protracted Displacement Conference, we would like to draw your attention to an upcoming AiS webinar series “Careers outside Academia”, open to at-risk and displaced postdoctoral scholars currently residing in Germany, Lebanon and Jordan. The series will consist of two short webinars, which will take place on 5 and 12 February 2021.

The first webinar, titled “Career strategies and development planning outside academia”, aims to help participants to assess their current position and career options beyond a classical academic track, reflect on their strengths and learning needs, identify career goals outside academia and develop a road map for achieving them in the individual setting.

The second webinar “Applying for jobs outside academia” offers practical guidance on job applications outside universities and public sector research institutions. It addresses key issues, such as job search, approaching potential employers, writing a letter of motivation, preparing a non-academic CV and tips for job interviews. Each webinar session will include a preparatory e-learning module of about one hour to be completed before the online meeting.

At-risk and displaced scholars currently based in Germany, Jordan or Lebanon are invited to apply by 15 January 2021.

To apply, please send to AiS your most recent academic CV and a short letter of motivation (max. 250 words), specifying your current position, work experiences outside university (if any) and a short self-assessment of your prospects for a career beyond academia. Applications should be sent in PDF format to ais@fu-berlin.de with a subject line: Application – Webinars “Careers outside Academia”.

Those selected for participation will be expected to commit to the both webinars.
